Update (9/30): We are still working on finalizing our scaling solution. We've been very impressed with the breadth and depth of proposals submitted in this Bake-Off. Many projects have done great work, and it's good to see so many ideas in the Ethereum ecosystem.

The Goal

In conjunction with the Ethereum Foundation, Reddit is inviting Ethereum scaling projects to show the community how your scaling solution can be used to bring Community Points to mainnet. Our goal is to find a solution that will support hundreds of thousands of Community Points users on mainnet today, and can eventually scale to all of Reddit (430 million monthly users).
We’ve evaluated some of the most promising scaling solutions, and have learned a few things:

1. There are plenty of awesome projects that we don't know about yet. We seem to learn about a promising new scaling solution every day.
2. Most existing scaling solutions focus on the exchange use case, which favors optimizing for transfers. Many of these designs don't take into consideration the costs of obtaining tokens or entering the scaling system, which can be significant. Community Points distributions have cost an order of magnitude more gas than all other operations combined, primarily due to on-chain storage costs associated with onboarding new users.
3. It's unclear how to determine the best solution. There is a lot of code, a lot of documentation, and a lot of hype out there. But there are very few objective real-world reviews or comparisons of various products/implementations.
4. We need the Ethereum community's help to figure this out.

Do you have a scaling project that meets the criteria below? If so, share your demo by July 31, 2020. Please note that all demos need to simulate Community Points usage for 100,000 users.
We also invite all scaling experts in the Ethereum community to comment on any demos submitted to enable a better understanding of the trade-offs and compromises between different solutions.
We will review the demos and plan to share any updates by September. While we don’t expect any novel scaling projects, we hope that you, the Ethereum scaling expert, can show us how to scale Community Points.
Demos should include:

1. A live proof of concept showing hundreds of thousands of transactions
2. Source code (for on & off-chain components as well tooling used for the PoC). The source code does not have to be shared publicly, but if Reddit decides to use a particular solution it will need to be shared with Reddit at some point
3. Documentation
   1. How it works & scales
   2. Cost estimates (on-chain and off-chain)
   3. How to run it
   4. Architecture
   5. APIs (on chain & off)
   6. Known issues or tradeoffs
4. Summary of cost & resource information for both on-chain & off-chain components used in the PoC, as well as cost & resource estimates for further scaling. If your PoC is not on mainnet, make note of any mainnet caveats (such as congestion issues).

Requirements

Scaling. This PoC should scale to the numbers below with minimal costs (both on & off-chain). There should also be a clear path to supporting hundreds of millions of users.

• Over a 5 day period, your scaling PoC should be able to handle:
  • 100,000 point claims (minting & distributing points)
  • 25,000 subscriptions
  • 75,000 one-off points burning
  • 100,000 transfers

Decentralization. Solutions should not depend on any single third-party provider.

• We prefer solutions that do not depend on specific entities such as Reddit or another provider, and solutions with no single point of control or failure in off-chain components, but recognize there are numerous trade-offs to consider

Usability. Scaling solutions should have a simple end user experience.

• Users shouldn't have to maintain any extra state/proofs, regularly monitor activity, keep track of extra keys, or sign anything other than their normal transactions
• Transactions complete in a reasonable amount of time (seconds or minutes, not hours or days)
• Free to use for end users (no gas fees, or fixed/minimal fees that Reddit can pay on their behalf)
• Bonus points:
  • Users should be able to view their balances & transactions via a blockchain explorer-style interface
  • Exiting is fast & simple

Interoperability. Compatibility with third party apps (wallets/contracts/etc) is necessary.

• Scaling solutions should be extensible and allow third parties to build on top of it
• APIs should be well documented and stable
• Documentation should be clear and complete
• Third-party permissionless integrations should be possible & straightforward
• Simple is better. Learning an uncommon or proprietary language should not be necessary. Advanced knowledge of mathematics, cryptography, or L2 scaling should not be required. Compatibility with common utilities & toolchains is expected.
• Bonus Points: Show us how it works. Do you have an idea for a cool new use case for Community Points? Build it!

Security. Users have full ownership & control of their points.

• Balances and transactions cannot be forged, manipulated, or blocked by Reddit or anyone else
• Users should own their points and be able to get on-chain ERC20 tokens without permission from anyone else
• Points should be recoverable to on-chain ERC20 tokens even if all third-parties involved go offline
• A public, third-party review attesting to the soundness of the design should be available
• Bonus points:
  • Public, third-party implementation review available or in progress
  • Compatibility with HSMs & hardware wallets

Other Considerations

• Minting/distributing tokens is not performed by Reddit directly [1]
• One off point burning, as well as recurring, non-interactive point burning (for subreddit memberships [2]) should be possible and scalable
• Fully open-source solutions are strongly preferred

[1] In the current implementation, Reddit provides signed data for claims, but does not submit the actual claim transaction for the user (the user does that themselves). Note that smart contracts are considered independent of Reddit provided there is a path to decentralizing control over them.
[2] Subreddit memberships are currently implemented as a contract acting as an ERC777-style operator that can burn points on a monthly basis, but we are open to changing that implementation.

Implementation Contracts

Points Distribution & Claims

Token supply is controlled by distribution rounds managed in the Distributions contract and triggered by Reddit. For each round (occurring ~monthly), Reddit submits a proposal for points distribution to a subreddit for approval. Once approved, Reddit issues signed claims for individual users according to the agreed upon points distribution. These claims can be redeemed on-chain. Claims are obtained from Reddit, and submitted to the Distributions contract, which validates the claim and calls the Subreddit Points contract to mint points.

Memberships

Subreddit memberships are obtained by burning points via the Subscriptions contract. Redditors can optionally configure their membership to be renewable on a monthly basis without additional interaction. The Subscriptions contract is granted permission to burn points by being configured as an ERC777-style default operator in the Subreddit Points contract.

So you want to sell some (or all) of your FortniteBR Bricks? You've come to the right place! First go ahead and subscribe here to HNY.
The following is a guide designed to help you sell your Bricks as quickly and easily as possible for a stable crypto coin called xDai which is valued at 1 US Dollar each. It is created to help you complete the process even if you have never even heard of cryptocurrency besides that line in Ant Man and the Wasp.

Be aware that the follow up to this guide (actually getting US Dollars in your bank account) will only be available to you if you are a legal adult or have a legal adult who is willing to create a Coinbase or similar cryptocurrency exchange account to help you cash out. If you are not able to create a Coinbase account and you don't have anyone who can help you cash out, consider completing this guide anyways as this tech is available to anyone with a computer or smartphone.You do not need permission from anyone to use the Ethereum or Xdai networks. As time goes by both the xDai and the Ethereum will continue to grow and you will likely benefit greatly by getting involved at this early stage in the crypto market.
Most people who are new to crypto and want to buy some as an investment are forced sign up for crypto exchanges and buy indirectly. You as a brick holder have an opportunity to build a crypto portfolio without putting in a penny of your (or your parents) money.
All you want is a couple skins and you dont want to go through this process? Look around this sub and the rest of the Honeyswap community for other interested brick buyers. Some redditors who complete this guide are likely to be willing to buy them from you (for a reduced price of course) so you might even be able to post here and find someone. Step 1, Figure out how much your bricks are worth and whether it is worth your time to proceed with the rest of this guide:

Step 2, A bit of prep work:
There are a few things to get done before you can start the withdraw and sale of your Bricks, I'm going to break this step into a few parts.
A) Download and install the Metamask browser extension here https://metamask.io/
B) Follow the prompts when installing Metamask, write down your seed phrase in a secure safe place that you will remember.
C) Get some Rinkeby ETH here https://faucet.rinkeby.io/
In order to use this "faucet" you will need to copy your Ethereum address in Metamask by clicking "Account 1" after opening the Metamask extension (clicking Account 1 will copy your address).
Paste it in a post on Twitter or Facebook, it shouldn't matter what else you put in the post besides your address. After making the post copy the link to the post and paste it in the Rinkeby faucet field. You wont need a lot so feel free to select the smallest amount the faucet gives in order to receive it more quickly.
After you receive the Rinkeby eth you can delete your post if you want, verify you received it first by opening Metamask and clicking on the drop down menu in the middle on top (it probably says "Main Ethereum Network") and switch to "Rinkeby". You should see the eth from the faucet relatively soon after you share your post with it.
D) Add the xDai network to Metamask by following this official guide https://www.xdaichain.com/for-users/wallets/metamask/metamask-setup

Step 3, Withdrawing your bricks:
Open up your reddit app on your smartphone and click on your profile in the top left.
A menu will appear on the left side of the app, click on "Vault" in that menu then click the arrow at the top right that looks like a paper plane.
Paste your Ethereum address from step 2 in the field that says "User or Ethereum Address".
Directly under your Eth address there is a drop down list of coins, select FortniteBR then put in the number of bricks you plan to sell (all of them?).

Step 4, Bridging your Bricks
You have withdrawn your Bricks to Rinkeby, now you need to move them to the xDai network in order to sell them.
Open Metamask and make sure you are selected on the Rinkeby network (see the end of step 2 if stuck on this).

Click the "Connect" button and allow view permissions when prompted by Metamask. You should be able to see the amount of bricks that you sent from your vault. If it says 0 or it didnt connect, refresh the page and click connect again.
In the "Amount" field put the same amount of bricks that you sent from your vault.
Click the "Go" button, metamask should pop up, make sure to change the "gas price" field to 1 if it is not already and click the blue "confirm" button.
Wait a minute.
Open the Metamask extension and switch to the xDai network.
Go to the xDai faucet here https://xdai-faucet.top/
Copy your eth address again and paste it in the field, complete the captcha, stay on the page and wait a few minutes to receive your 1 penny of xDai. When I tested this step after I completed the captcha it kept spinning/loading for a long time then I finally received my .01 xDai.
Before moving on make sure Metamask displays your 0.01 xDai (from the faucet) and the correct number of Bricks.

Step 5, Swapping your Bricks
Go here https://honeyswap.org/#/swap and accept the token pair update that will pop up in the top right.
In top drop down menu (it should say XDAI) select xBrick then hit the "MAX" button, it should fill the field with the total amount of Bricks you sent. (See step 6 if you are interested in generating income from fees of other people using this exchange, in that case swap a little over half your Bricks to xDai).
When you click the bottom drop down menu you will be prompted to select the default pair list, do that and select XDAI.

Notice the green or red % at the bottom across from \"Price Impact\"
Take a look at the price impact % in green or red on your screen.
Click on the gear icon at the top right of the window and make sure your "Slippage Tolerance" is at least slightly greater than your "Price Impact". An example would be if your "Price Impact" says 0.73% you will want to type at least 0.75% or 0.8% to be safe in the "Slippage Tolerance" field.
Click the Swap button and when Metamask pops up change the "gwei" field to 2. Confirm the transaction in Metamask.
Congratulations you have converted your Bricks into xDai, a stablecoin valued at 1 US Dollar each!

Step 6, What now?
I'm working on a follow up guide where I detail the process of bridging your xDai to the Ethereum network as Dai, transferring it to Coinbase and selling it for USD then finally depositing that to your bank account. Please leave a comment here if this would be helpful for you as I'm not sure how much demand we have for it yet and I'm currently prioritizing other guides.
In the meantime you might be interested in this technology, maybe you want to learn more and become invested in the tech that has made this all possible!
There are many ways to invest in cryptocurrency, for this guide lets focus on Bricks and the Honey token which has made all of this possible.
You can earn more xDai and xBricks from other user's trading fees by adding them to the pool in the "Pool" tab on Honeyswap. After adding the amounts of each token click the green "Supply" button and confirm it in Metamask. You can see the value of your part of the pool by copying your Eth address from Metamask and pasting it in the address field at the top of this link https://info.honeyswap.org/accounts the field should say 0x.. in gray.
You can also buy some Honey, the token that powers Honeyswap, by swapping some xDai to HNY. Always make sure to keep at least 1 penny of xDai in your Metamask wallet to make sure you can cover transaction fees.
Honey is a token managed by a decentralized organization known as 1Hive. Anyone can be rewarded in Honey tokens for contributing to the project and sharing your contributions in discord, more info can be found at their website here https://about.1hive.org/ as well as the discord here https://discord.gg/GK98Ts
Honey is also being given out to "Liquidity Providers" (anyone who has added supply in the pool tab) for specific pairs that have been chosen by the 1Hive community. You can vote with your Honey tokens here https://1hive.org/#/ to show that you want HNY rewards for the xBrick xDai pool. Voting does not spend your HNY, it is just a way for the community to make decisions by voting weighted by your investment in HNY. Currently there is a proposal on page 2 that you might want to support which if passed will reward LP's (Liquidity Providers) of the xBrick xDai pair.

Be aware that the Bricks token is currently in testnet (the reason this guide is so long and complicated) and if you hold any bricks as xBricks on the xDai network you will need to keep an eye on this sub to see what you need to do when mainnet bricks are released. Most likely there will be a swap where you can switch your testnet Bricks into mainnet ones. We were thrilled to find out Reddit was going to use distributed ledger technology for driving user engagement, interaction, and loyalty. The front page of the Internet switching to Web 3.0 is something you don’t see every day: fifteen years into existence, you’re once again on the cutting edge of innovation.

Currently, the blockchain has an ability to proceed 10 000 transactions per block, it means that Minter is scalable up to 183 050 800 daily transactions, if necessary.
Decentralization and Security
In Minter, we implemented the Delegated Proof of Stake (dPoS) Consensus Protocol. Minter Blockchain utilizes:

Tendermint Consensus Engine 

dPoS is the fastest, most efficient, most decentralized, and most flexible consensus model available. dPoS leverages the power of stakeholder approval voting to resolve consensus issues in a fair and democratic way.

If Reddit would use Minter as their blockchain for Community points then all Redditors:
